Tennessee Fitness Facilities

Fitness facilities

The Spa’s fitness facilities are comprised of a fully equipped gym, heated swimming pool, fitness classroom, cycling room, racquetball court with viewing area, sauna, covered hot tub, and a sun deck. All our facilities are open 24 hours a day.

The workout gym is a 5,000-square-foot facility featuring a 2,400-square-foot aerobics classroom, an 850-square-foot cardiovascular area, and a 1,750-square-foot weight room area. Our cardiovascular area is equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines, rowing machine, and recumbent bikes. The 1,750-square-foot weight area contains Pacific Fitness and Pro Maxima strength training equipment, as well as free weights.

The enclosed pool, used for aquatic classes, lap swimming, and recreational swimming, is 60 feet long by 30 feet wide. Our pool slopes from three to five feet in depth, and is maintained at 82 to 85 degrees. Nearby, the hot tub accommodates four people at a time and is heated to a temperature of 104 degrees. A deck for sunbathing surrounds the indoor pool area.

We encourage people to try new classes while here at the fitness spa. We offer a variety of classes, so feel free to experiment and find the right ones for you. If a class is not right for you, then you can always leave the class and try the next one. There is no intimidation and no peer pressure. We offer a variety of options, hoping you will find classes that you want to continue when you take the program home.

History of the Tennessee Fitness Spa

A short history of our fitness spa

The Natural Bridge property has always remained in the hands of private individuals. Shortly after, the property was developed as a recreational fishing camp. Then, in 1955, it was updated and opened as The Scenic Natural Bridge Tourist Resort. Two of the original stone structures, a stone arch and the dining hall, still stand.

The Scenic Natural Bridge Tourist Resort closed to the public in the 1960s. Later, the property was given a new look and served as a venue for country music concerts. Well-known artists such as George Jones, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Ronnie Milsap, and Bill Monroe performed during the 1980s in the property’s lovely outdoor amphitheater.

In 1990, Joe and Nancy Shaw purchased the property and began plans for Tennessee Fitness Spa. The first guests were welcomed in February of 1991. After celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2021, we still remain a family-owned and operated business.

The Natural Bridge at Tennessee Fitness Spa

The Natural Bridge

Tennessee Fitness Spa is located 95 miles southwest of Nashville, Tennessee, just eight miles outside Waynesboro, Tennessee at a beautiful Natural Bridge. This historic site is the only known double span natural bridge formation in the world. It is a purely natural formation that was formed over millions of years by a fresh water spring located nearby.

Tribes, including the Yuchi Indians from Mexico, the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Muskogean, and Creeks walked the trails around the Natural Bridge and used this site over several different periods of history. The Natural Bridge is bordered by Forty-Eight Creek, a crystal-clear, cool water stream with many species of fish, which can often be seen from the banks. Another popular creation of nature is the “Ice Cave.” The temperature in the cave is a cool 58 degrees all year round, with a stream flowing out of the cave and into our duck pond.

The Natural Bridge is only open to the public (16 years and older) on Sundays, during our open season (March through November).

If you are not a guest and wish to see the Natural Bridge, please call us at (931) 722-5589.
