The Benefits of Living a Healthy Lifestyle
Have you finally decided to be a healthier you in 2022? If so, congrats, that’s incredible – it’s such a big step to start implementing new habits. If you’re still deciding, then this is the blog for you. We’re going to go over some of the benefits you will feel, both physically and mentally, once you start to fuel your body and add more movement to your day-to-day life.
What is a healthy lifestyle?
You may be scratching your head about what exactly it means to live a healthy lifestyle. And it’s a good thing you’re questioning that, because a healthy lifestyle is very personal to everyone. For one person, it could mean making sure he/she gets in ten thousand steps every single day; for another person, it could mean getting in the gym and lifting heavy. For some, it means making time for their friends and family; for others, it could mean scheduling alone time for themselves. For some, a healthy lifestyle may mean eating a variety of different foods; or, it may mean following a special diet or working with a nutritionist.
Generally, a healthy lifestyle is one that implements getting your body moving, fueling it well, drinking water, and getting enough sleep. A healthy lifestyle is personal and entirely up to you. One is not better than the other; it is a lifestyle that works for you in the long-term and feels good to you.
The Benefits
- Energy: It’s one of those things that seems obvious, but by fueling your body with high-quality foods like vegetables, fruits, and lean meats, along with getting an adequate amount of sleep, water, and exercise, you’ll find yourself full of energy. Once you give your body what it wants and needs, you might find yourself not grabbing the third or fourth cup of coffee.
- Better Mood: When you exercise, your brain releases a bunch of happiness chemicals like serotonin and endorphins to boost your mood. Exercise is proven to ease feelings of depression and anxiety by decreasing cortisol – the stress hormone – in your body.
- Improved Self-Esteem: Taking care of yourself will make you feel so much better inside and out. Creating healthy habits and sticking to them builds a sense of confidence and self-worth.
- Clearer Skin: The more you eat nutrient-dense foods and drink water, the better your skin will look. Drinking enough water will help flush out toxins in your body and improve the health and look of your skin.
- Deeper Sleep: Sleep and exercise are interconnected, meaning they each influence the other. Those who work out will sleep better, and those who sleep better will be more motivated to work out. And getting the recommended amount of sleep – about 7-9 hours per night for adults – comes with a slew of its own benefits.
- Boosted Immune System: Implementing everything discussed previously leads back to improving your immune system. The immune system doesn’t need a lot of help to do what it does best – protect you from germs. But aiding it with a diet rich in vitamins and minerals, drinking plenty of water, exercising three to four times a week, and getting enough sleep keeps everything running smoothly.
